Today Calne played their last match of the season at home to Westbury, with the league already won the pressure was now off but the home side weren't about to take their foot off the pedal and were determined to finish their season in style. The Westbury side still had everything to play for and came looking for the three points and to be the only team this season to do the double over the champions. The match got underway with both teams playing some good football, the breakthrough came for the home side after just 10 minutes with Sam Haywood putting away a good goal, this was followed 8 minutes later when Rory Worthington released a shot from the edge of the area that lobbed the Westbury keeper. The match continue at pace with both teams creating chances, a good spell of procession and build up play for the home side lead to their third goal scored by Harry Warner on 33 minutes. The Westbury side created a good break just before the interval and scored making it 3-1 at half time. The second half got underway with both teams coming out strong, playing some nice controlled and direct football, as the half went on the home side started to take control of the match. A determined run and great left foot shot from Oliver Coulson netted Calne's fourth goal on 50 minutes, this was closely followed by a well taken free kick from Matt Strevens and a great finish from Sam Haywood to make the final score 6-1 to the home side.
This was a great end to a great season, well done to all of the players involved and a big thanks to all of the parents for their support this season.
We can now look forward to some tournments over the next couple of months and then start working hard at training in preparation for league one football next season.
MOM was awarded to Matt Strevens
