FC Calne’s opening home fixture against Greenmeadow Youth B was always likely to be a tricky game. It was Greenmeadow that rocked the home team by opening the scoring with only 2 minutes gone. A well worked chance and neat finish. A scrappy first half followed, with neither team managing any real possession and very few scoring chances. On 28 minutes it was James Diston that levelled the scores through a well worked free kick with Dan Strevens.
Calne started the second half with a new found sense of purpose and increased tempo. After some excellent build up play Calne were 2-1 up within just 3 minutes of the restart. Following a run down the length of the pitch by Ryan Collins it was Owen Davies that applied a low driven strike. The game opened up for both teams, but it was Calne that registered the next goal 6 minutes later courtesy of Charlie Humphreys. Calne extended their lead to 4-1 halfway through the second half, this time Charlie turning provider for Todd Buckley.
Greenmeadow provided excellent competition and were well worthy of their second goal with only 4 minutes remaining.
Well done boys, a really entertaining match and fine North Wilts debut for FC Calne B!!
